I
am launching two logos that I'm hoping people will adopt and put on
their sites to signify their attitude towards the concept of a
voluntary code.

And for those with a more sensitive disposition:

I have had some requests for a high res version of the middle finger logo. You can get that here. Please drop me a line if you decide to use any of these, so I can add it to my list of adopters.
Update: James Higham of Nourishing Obscurity
has figured out the HTML for posting the polite badge. I can't figure
out how to post the HTML to the blog entry without it turning into the
image, so if you want the code then just email me.

This is a great idea. We really need to fight this stupid concept.
I am going to forward this to as many people as possible. Love it!
Thanks. Please let me know of any sites that do use the logo.
Excellent idea!-Let's take these Bastards on!
Is it voluntary or do i have to use it?
Until it is proved to me that we actually need one, I have put one on my site :)
Who in their right mind would sign up to a voluntary code? Even if the big blogs do that still leaves millions of smaller blogs with no interest in doing so. Which are the nastier blogs? Well, apart from a select few (Guido) they are largely the smaller ones. Good luck PCC.
The way this will play out is that a couple of the more institutional bloggers will be invited to take part in a forum to discuss a potential code. It will all sound very reasonable but will morph over time. Any blogger that takes part in one of these forums should be boycotted. Nobody should be helping them to form this next wave of oppressive regulation.
It'll be on tygerland.net later today.
It's on my blog.
That logo should show two fingers, according to English custom.
The logo is meant to show that we are not going to let them screw with blogs.
And it's now also proudly atop the Select Society also, with a little cheeky update to give you the credit.
Pure genius... But I agree we need a 'two fingers' version.
I'm buckling under the pressure for two fingers, but can't find an image of the fingers that matches the middle finger image. If anyone can find one then I'll make the badge.
It's up on mine.
I will be adding the more polite one on my blog. Thanks for drawing attention to this.
I saw your comment on the Vol Abroad's site and have this up on mine now too. Thanks!
If 100,000 new blogs a day are created and 1.3 million "things" posted, why do these wankers care? Clearly no one is reading most of what is posted.
That said, I like your bold logo, Mr. D&B, and think I would quite fancy a shag with you...
I've linked here too.
Actually, Disillusioned, doesn't the logo convey the opposite of what is intended.
The 'finger' is an insult, right? But your red line through it suggests that insults are banned. Which in turn implies that free-speech is being curtailed, not promoted.
For it to work, you would either need a middle-finger WITHOUT a line through it... or perhaps some other logo which represents "voluntary code" which you could then put a line through.
Does that make sense?
I take your point, but I think the middle finger is them trying to screw us and us not taking it... does that make sense. The alternative view of it is that they want to ban offensive stuff like the middle finger and we are saying that it is a zone free of the banning. The point was to make something that looked interesting and was a little rude. I couldn't think of anything better than putting the words voluntary code in the circle and it was pretty boring(like the one below, but harder to read). What a bunch of waffle. Who knows...
Thanks for the comment on my blog. I'm not sure how strongly I feel about the subject because I sense that this is likely to come to nothing. If governments can't regulate the Internet, I don't think journalists will have much chance either.
its on my blog
Eurealist
If I can work out a way to get the html from the banner, I'll put it on my blog.
Tried to get the html by looking at your whole blog in html and selecting it but it doesn't work. Pity. I'd have liked to have used it.
I'll be adding it to my blog.
Mine's now up, thanks to P-G. Actually, it looks quite snazzy, sitting there.
Glad to hear it worked. I don't know whether you are able to post the code here, but that would be terrific. I am adding you to the list right now.

The first img file is:
<img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/3326/4263/400/volcodefree.jpg" alt="" border="0" />
The second one is:
<img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/3326/4263/400/volcodefree.png" alt="" border="0" />
You need to use < to open the tag and > to close it. (Look up `HTML entities'.)
I took off some style stuff, but if you're worried about it just view the source for this page. I'd guess people using it would prefer it to link back here like so:
<a href="http://disillusionedandbored.blogspot.com/2006/11/voluntary-code-free-zone.html">
<img src="http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger2/3326/4263/400/volcodefree.png" alt="" border="0" />
</a>
You should be able to cut and paste the above stuff into an HTML file as usual.
The code above appears wrong as it's being cut off; if you want to see it properly, click on the link to post a comment.
Some good advice above. One of the ways the Blogpower was 'postable' was that all the slashes were reversed and then when you wanted to put it in the sidebar, you just put the slashes back the right way.
Great idea!
I will be adding this yo my site as soon as I leave here.
