Following the news that wholesale gas prices quadrupled on Monday, we’ve had a series of comforting brown-outs (voltage drops) in the Guildford area over the last couple of days. Tickles dark corners of my memory, so it does….

No, Tim. There were no brown-outs, savvy? You must have imagined it. Or was it your fuses? There is no threat to domestic supply. The government said so.http://business.guardian.co.uk/story/0,,1730778,0…Got that?

I've got a mate that works for a gas company. Apparently domestic gas supply is cut only as a last resort, because if that happens all the little flames in people's boilers go out, and they've got to send people round to relight them all as they turn the supply back on.My friend also says that most companies decided not to buy this winter's gas in advance, because they thought they could get a better price later. The gamble didn't pay off, so they're putting up the prices.
