Who decides when London’s traffic cameras should be turned away from embarrassing scenes and/or switched off altogether when a demonstration is in progress… and on what authority?

Interesting question. I was watching the BBC “jam cams” when there were some riots in London when they were made “unavailable due to operational reasons”. I contacted the BBC to ask why this happened during “disturbance”, believing that they owned or leased the cameras and was told that the police own the cameras. So, I cannot tell you who is responsible, only that it’s police-related. I will track down the e-mail reply I received from the BBC if that helps.Funnily, during the 14th May Brian Haw support meeting, the camera on Parliament Square was made unavailable for a short period, so I naturally assumed the police had gone in to stomp over you lot.
